How the joke works
Slot 1 gives a strange, contradictory, or overcomplicated message. Slot 2 supplies the reader/caller's baffled internal reaction. Humor should come from the message, not an insult about Burke.
- confusing message/request
- baffled attempt to process it
Caption examples
- Text: ‘Come by at 7. Actually 8. Bring nothing, except the thing.’
- Me rereading this like it contains a hidden quest
The deliberately contradictory message explains the puzzled phone stare.
- It is sunny
- I enjoy lunch
No confusing call/text and no reaction payoff.
Situations it fits
- a text has mutually exclusive instructions
- someone sends a 12-part voice note to answer yes/no
- a listing says both pickup only and free delivery
- a game quest objective contradicts its map marker
- a friend explains a very convoluted plan
When this format does not fit
- Do not claim a particular quote or date without evidence.
- Do not ridicule the real person's intelligence or appearance.
- Do not use routine messages without a genuine contradiction or complication.
