Empty Stonks meme template: Meme Man stands in a suit before a blue stock-chart background. An orange arrow points up toward a blank glowing label area. There is no baked-in caption. The active layout has two boxes: a larger top box for the setup and a shorter bottom label for the result, payoff, score, or supposed gain.

Empty Stonks Meme Template

“Stonks” is the intentionally misspelled stock-market reaction meme: Meme Man poses before an upward chart as if a gain has been achieved. Know Your Meme traces the classic image to a 2017 post by Special Meme Fresh. “Empty Stonks” is an Imgflip template remix; the sources reviewed do not establish a creator or precise origin for this variation. The joke does not need to be about actual finance. Across the attached examples, people use the format for tiny internet wins, ridiculous cause-and-effect, a tiny reward treated like treasure, or an ironic outcome such as “Life span,” “No ideas,” or “KROMER.”

What the Empty Stonks meme means

Meme Man stands in a suit before a blue stock-chart background. An orange arrow points up toward a blank glowing label area. There is no baked-in caption. The active layout has two boxes: a larger top box for the setup and a shorter bottom label for the result, payoff, score, or supposed gain.

How the joke works

Slot 1 (top) gives the action, situation, or trigger. Slot 2 (bottom) names the result, payoff, score, reward, or stat that the upward arrow is supposedly celebrating. The payoff can be a tiny win inflated into a huge W, a cursed tradeoff, a deliberately empty reward, or an ironic consequence. Make both lines part of the same joke. The image provides the stock-market “gain” framing; do not force real stocks, companies, or business metrics into it.

  1. Top setup: the action, situation, or trigger that supposedly creates a gain or result.
  2. Bottom payoff: the score, reward, outcome, ironic tradeoff, or “STONKS” style conclusion the arrow celebrates.

Caption examples

Example that works
  1. me posting one meme at 2am
  2. 4 upvotes. generational wealth.

The post is the setup and the tiny internet-point payoff gets absurdly inflated into a huge win.

Example that misses
  1. stocks went up today
  2. stonks

This repeats the stock image without a specific setup or an ironic, funny payoff.

Situations it fits

  • a tiny meme or post getting a few upvotes treated like a legendary win
  • a game drop, rare item, or KROMER-like reward treated as treasure
  • a cursed life hack whose absurd tradeoff still counts as a gain somehow
  • someone making their first meme and immediately running out of ideas
  • an internet bit or fandom moment with a hilariously small payoff
  • a fictional bad decision producing an unexpected or ironic result

When this format does not fit

  • Do not limit this to corporate metrics, investments, or business decisions; internet points, gaming rewards, fandom, and everyday absurdity fit the examples.
  • Do not make the two captions unrelated; slot 2 must be the payoff or outcome of slot 1.
  • Do not treat the upward arrow as proof of real financial gain or actual investment advice.
  • Do not assume the payoff must be genuinely good; tiny wins, empty rewards, and ironic tradeoffs can be the joke.
  • Do not call the blank glowing label area a specific asset; it is simply where the payoff text goes.
