Heavy Breathing Cat Meme Template
This active image belongs to the older “Heavy Breathing Cat” reaction format, not the separate “Violent Impulses” orange-kitten format described in the supplied CSV context. Know Your Meme documents the exact 373×344 image as “Breathing intensifies,” uploaded in November 2013, and describes “[Heavy Breathing]” as a caption associated with a forward-staring cat image. The baked caption makes the cat’s intense anticipation or desire explicit; user text typically names the tempting thing or situation provoking it. The CSV context appears to conflate this image with a different 2021 meme and includes incomplete source/platform fields, so its origin details should not be applied to this asset.

What the Heavy Breathing Cat meme means
This active image belongs to the older “Heavy Breathing Cat” reaction format, not the separate “Violent Impulses” orange-kitten format described in the supplied CSV context. Know Your Meme documents the exact 373×344 image as “Breathing intensifies,” uploaded in November 2013, and describes “[Heavy Breathing]” as a caption associated with a forward-staring cat image. The baked caption makes the cat’s intense anticipation or desire explicit; user text typically names the tempting thing or situation provoking it. A tightly cropped 373×344 photograph shows a round, wide-eyed gray-and-cream cat against a plain gray background, looking straight ahead. The words “(heavy breathing)” are already baked into the bottom of the image in italic text. The active editor provides one caption box across the top, above the cat.
How the joke works
The printed “(heavy breathing)” is the reaction and remains fixed. Use the single top box to identify the desirable thing, tempting opportunity, or awaited event that triggers the cat’s barely contained excitement or anticipation. A short phrase or compact situation works best; the image and printed caption complete the reaction. Keep the line playful and avoid turning it into a genuine threat.
- Top caption: name the tempting object, opportunity, or awaited event that triggers the baked “(heavy breathing)” reaction.
Caption examples
- THE LAST SLICE OF PIZZA IN THE BREAK ROOM
The line supplies the desirable trigger while the baked caption completes the cat’s eager reaction.
- A GRAY CAT WITH GREEN EYES
This merely describes the picture and supplies no cause for the reaction.
Situations it fits
- Eagerly anticipating a favorite snack, meal, or treat
- Waiting for an exciting but low-stakes event or announcement
- Spotting a coveted item, deal, or opportunity
- Playfully showing intense excitement about a familiar hobby or comfort
When this format does not fit
- Do not repeat “(heavy breathing)” in the top box; it is already baked into the image.
- Do not describe the cat’s appearance instead of naming what it is reacting to.
- Do not treat this active image as the separate orange-kitten “Violent Impulses” meme from the CSV context.
- Do not turn the playful reaction into a credible threat or encouragement of real violence.
